Chrome Collar Anthology
Chrome Collar is a contemporary new anthology of illustrated fictional short stories, that explore futuristic scenarios related to innovative new technologies. Featuring fully developed storylines with unrelated characters, scenarios and illustrative styles it explores the possible effects technology will have on us, society and the world around us. Encouraging free-thinking speculation, this book’s main aim is to help the reader imagine a preferable future. Instead of solely proposing a political alternative to reach a desired Utopian future, each scenario is infused with a degree of feasibility whilst not relying on the ‘science’ behind ideas. It’s easy to see the shiny appeal of new technologies like 3D printing, personal robots and driverless cars. The advantages these bring are obvious for all to see. But the disadvantages are less obvious. Technological unemployment is a very real possibility for a huge amount of people and there are no guarantees that new technologies will produce enough jobs to compensate. Instead of dictating solutions, I maintain that through speculative design a desired future can be imagined or achieved through discussion alone.
